In general, industrial wastewater treatment falls into two distinct types. One is that problematic substances are removed from the water, for example by filters/membranes or by evaporation of industrial wastewater. The other is to selectively add substances to improve quality. This is used in chemical purification, which uses acids or bases to adjust pH, or salts to improve conductivity .
